California fans of the television show “Vanderpump Rules” may be interested to learn that star Scheana Shay and her former husband Mike Shay finalized their divorce on April 29. The two announced that they were divorcing on Nov. 9, 2016, after just two years of marriage.
As part of their divorce agreement, Scheana Shay will keep two vehicles, a 2016 Ford Explorer and a 2009 Nissan. She will also keep a bank account that has approximately $1,000 in it and a retirement fund that is worth about $31,000. Her former husband will keep a 2005 GMC Sierra. Additionally, Scheana Shay was ordered to pay her former husband $50,000, which balances out their assets.
The former couple made a joint statement regarding their divorce. In it, they said that they cam to an amicable decision and intended to move forward while maintaining mutual respect for each other. They also said that they looked forward to continue supporting each other.
When an estranged couple is going through a divorce, property division can become a sticking point, especially in a community property state like California. Although there is always the option to go through mediation, this process may not work if the former couple cannot work with each other to come to an amicable agreement. A family law attorney may assist with negotiating exactly how the property will be split. For example, if one person wants to keep the house, the other person may be entitled to cash funds and other property that amount to the same value.
